Independent Benchmark Demonstrates Revolutionary Real-Time Performance from MATRIXX Software

MATRIXX platform processes over 150 million events per hour on $100k blade server

Nice, France, May 18, 2010 – MATRIXX Software, developer of the next generation of online charging and policy management solutions, today announces that the performance of its real-time rating and charging engine has been independently benchmarked at 151.1 million events per hour on an industry standard HP/Linux blade server costing US$100k.

Communications service providers are finding it increasingly difficult to manage the explosion in data services traffic. As volumes double every 8-12 months, existing real-time charging solutions cannot provide the performance, flexibility and efficiency to process all this usage profitably. The benchmark scenarios were designed and verified by a Tier-1 systems integration firm. During the benchmark, the MATRIXX Online Charging Engine demonstrated:

  • Fully transactional, real-time rating and charging for all events
  • Network grade clustering, including synchronous disk logging & patent-pending, 4-way atomic replication of all in-memory data
  • Throughput of 41,996 events per second, 151.1 million per hour across 10 million subscribers
  • Over 1300 events per CPU core scaling linearly from 1 blade (8 cores) through 4 blades (32 cores)
  • Consistent throughput and latency across all price plans – from simple SMS rating to complex data and voice rating and discounting scenarios

The benchmark modeled a 10 million subscriber operator using real-world system requirements including 4-way redundancy of all data for 'five 9s' availability, synchronous logging of all transactions, and extremely complex rating and discounting plans. Linear scalability was proven across all scenarios as blades were added to the cluster, giving service providers a quick and cost-effective way to scale the solution as traffic volumes increase. In addition, MATRIXX Software's patent-pending Parallel-Matrixx technology creates atomically synchronized copies of all data across every blade. Unlike traditional "master/slave" replication models, the Parallel-Matrixx cluster allows simultaneous ownership of all data by all blades, resulting in 100% efficient parallel processing and instantaneous fault recovery – huge advantages in a mission critical application such as online charging.

The MATRIXX Online Charging Engine offers unprecedented performance and efficiency, dramatically reducing the Cost Per Transaction (CPT) for processing usage events.
